VCN Mail Client Configuration

Setting up your Email

When setting up a mail client on your own computer, you may be asked to fill in some details about your email account. Below are some of the details, which may be asked. Simply fill in the values specified in the fields.

What email client can I use?

You can use which ever email client/program you choose. The only requirements for your email program to work is that it needs to work with POP3 or IMAP connection types. If your email client only uses Microsoft Exchange it will not work with your Visionary email address. We recommend a free email client called Mozilla Thunderbird. You can download Mozilla Thunderbird here: getthunderbird.com.

  • Important Note: We do not make these programs, so unfortunately we cannot support these programs. As a courtesy we will try to help you input our server settings into your desired email client if we are familiar with it; but we cannot guarantee that it will work or that we have the knowledge for every email client out there. If you are having troubles with your email client, you may need to speak with the manufacturer of the software.

How to setup Mozilla Thunderbird:

Once you have downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and installed it, you will need to launch it for the first time by double-clicking on it's icon that was placed on your desktop. Once you have program opened, it will pop-up an Integrations Window asking you to confirm Mozilla Firefox as your default email client. Click "Set as Default" to proceed. Then you will be prompted with a Welcome to Thunderbird window. Click on the "Skip this and use my existing email" button at the bottom to continue. Next you will be taken to the Mail Account Setup screen, where you must enter in your name, your email address, and your email addresses password. Then click "Continue" down at the bottom. Now it will display an option and some settings in the middle of this window. You will want to select "POP3" or "IMAP" depending on which account type you wish to use. Then click "Done" at the bottom. The final step is to click on the Inbox folder on the left, just beneath your email address. Thunderbird will now be downloading your messages from our server and it may take several minutes for this initial download to complete.

Which account type should I use?

There are two account types that you can choose from: POP3 or IMAP.
  • The POP3 account type will download all emails from your inbox on our server and store them on that device. This is ideal for archiving your email on your computer so it isn't stored in your inbox on our server as any email left in your inbox on our server is automatically cleaned out after 90 days. One thing to keep in mind is that most email clients will delete your messages off our server after downloading the messages to your computer. This would mean you would no longer be able to see those messages in webmail. You can go into your client's options and set "keep messages on server" to get around this.
  • The IMAP account type will store all emails in your inbox on our server and your devices will login to our server to view the emails. This is ideal for checking your email on multiple devices or if you like to view your emails from webmail while traveling. One thing to keep in mind is that there is only one copy of the email, and that is stored in your inbox on our server. If you delete that email on any device, it will be removed from all devices including your inbox on our server.
