Allowing multiple downloads in Windows XP XP Home/Professional/Media Center
By default Internet Explorer 6.0 in Windows XP does not allow more than two downloads at a time, by adjusting the Registry you can have up to four downloads at a time.
- Backup the registry and set up a restore point. Click here to go to a knowledge base article on backing up and restoring the registry.
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type Regedt32.exe and Click Ok
- Open the Following Registry Key:
Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER (to open click the plus sign)
Open Software
Open Microsoft
Open Windows
Open Current Version
Open Internet Settings
- Right Click in the Right Panel (under the list of file names)
- Select New > DWORD Value (the new file will appear)
- Name the File: MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
- Right Click MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and Click Modify
- Select Hexadecimal and Type the value 4
- Click Ok
- Right Click in the Right Panel (under the list of file names as before)
- Select New > DWORD Value
- Name the File: MaxConnectionPerServer
- Right Click MaxConnectionPerServer and Click Modify
- Select Hexadecimal and Type the value 4
- Click File and Click Exit (from the top of the Registry Window)
- Reboot the Computer System and it should now allow 4 downloads at once, if failure on rebooting try restoring the Registry back to before you made the changes.
