Multiple downloads in Windows XP

Allowing multiple downloads in Windows XP XP Home/Professional/Media Center

 

By default Internet Explorer 6.0 in Windows XP does not allow more than two downloads at a time, by adjusting the Registry you can have up to four downloads at a time.

 

  1. Backup the registry and set up a restore point. Click here to go to a knowledge base article on backing up and restoring the registry.

 

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Run
  3. Type Regedt32.exe and Click Ok
  4. Open the Following Registry Key:

         Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER (to open click the plus sign)

         Open Software

         Open Microsoft

         Open Windows

         Open Current Version

         Open Internet Settings

  1. Right Click in the Right Panel (under the list of file names)
  2. Select New > DWORD Value (the new file will appear)
  3. Name the File:  MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
  4. Right Click MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server and Click Modify
  5. Select Hexadecimal and Type the value 4
  6. Click Ok
  7. Right Click in the Right Panel (under the list of file names as before)
  8. Select New > DWORD Value
  9. Name the File:  MaxConnectionPerServer
  10. Right Click MaxConnectionPerServer and Click Modify
  11. Select Hexadecimal and Type the value 4
  12. Click File and Click Exit (from the top of the Registry Window)
  13. Reboot the Computer System and it should now allow 4 downloads at once, if failure on rebooting try restoring the Registry back to before you made the changes.
